Santa Fe MPO, New Mexico

METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION PLAN

The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) serves as an important framework in addressing the transportation needs of the Santa Fe MPO over a 25 year horizon. The current Metropolitan Trasnportation Plan  (MTP) was adopted by the MPO Transportation Policy Board in June of 2005.  Federal Law (23 CFR 450.322) requires that the  MTP be updated at least every five-years.

The approved SFMTP enables the use of federal funding for a range of transportation network improvements (including roads, bridges, bikeways, and pedestrian facilities), as well as for transit/rail facilities, operations, and program support. Once reviewed and certified by the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Federal Highways and Transit Administrations, the SFMTP will guide future capital investment to improve all modes of transportation within the Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Area.

The Santa Fe MPO is currently in the process of conducting an update of the MTP which will cover the 25 year period 2010 to 2035, and is working towards adoption of the Plan around June 2010.

Some of the transportation issues under consideration include: Corridor Studies for I-25, NM599 and St. Francis Drive; potential roadway and bikeway connections; consistent design standards along roadway corridors; expanding transit and local rail service; developing a comprehensive pedestrian plan that integrates a local Safe Routes to School Program.

Three Public Input Meetings have been scheduled to provide the public an opportunuty to provide input on these any other transportation matters that they wish considered for inclusion in the MTP.  There is also an opportunities to provide input directly to the Transportation Policy Board at its monthly meetings (Third Thursday of the month).  Additionally, Public Meetings will be held once again to provide comment on the Draft MTP prior to adoption by the Transportation Policy Board.  Finally, input can also be given to MPO Staff:

Mark Tibbetts, MPO Director, 955-6614, or mstibbetts@santafenm.gov
Keith Wilson, MPO Senior Planner, 955-6706, or kpwilson@santafenm.gov

As materials are developed for the MTP they will be posted to this website so please check back frequently.
